Wayang as shared heritage

Wayang is a traditional cultural expression whose copyright is held by the State (Article 38 of the Copyright Law). Wayang.org claims no rights in the forms, characters or stories of wayang. What is protected is Wayang.org’s own work: the photographs, drawings, 3D models and texts made for this site.

The puppets shown remain the property of their owners, credited on every puppet. Using the photographs and 3D models of their puppets also needs permission (whether oral or written), arranged through Wayang.org.

Content from others

Text or data from other sources follows its own licence and is credited where it is used and on the Sources page.

Sponsors and advertising

Wayang.org is a non-profit project. To cover its costs, the site may show sponsors or advertising. This gives sponsors or advertisers no rights in Wayang.org’s content unless stated in writing.

Reports and corrections

If you find Wayang.org content used without permission, find a mistake, or object to content that concerns you, let us know through the form on the About page.
